FTP
Uploading your site |
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It's an easy way
to publish your website content to the server. There are
many free or trial version FTP clients available. We use
CuteFTP, another popular FTP client is WS_FTP.
If you are using FTP to upload your site, navigate to the
httpdocs directory and upload your pages here. Obviously any
CGI scripts should be placed in the cgi-bin. Ensure you set
the permissions correctly for your cgi scripts to avoid
errors (most scripts need to be set at 755).
You will need to make sure that your home page (your site
entrance page) is named index.htm, index.html or index.htm.
You will notice that there is already a file named
index.html in the httpdocs directory. This is a default page
placed automatically when your account was created. Simply
replace this with your own index file.
As each FTP client is different in the way it is configured,
it's hard to include instructions here for every version of
every FTP software. As such we have listed the basics, and
recommend you contact the FTP client software provider for
help using whichever client you are using. It is after all
their product, and they will be happy to support it.
You may or may not need all this information below, and it
may be labeled differently on your FTP software.
