Creating
a Sub-Web in Front Page |
Introduction
If you have a group working on a web site, or you want to
have several sites with different styles on one web domain
(or account), you can see a major limitation in FrontPage.
Luckily, Microsoft has thought of a solution to well, at
least partially solve this problem. You can create a web
inside of another web. And with this possible, you can
create a web inside of a web inside of a web. The
possibilities are endless! Each subweb also has its own set
of permissions, its own username and password, and its own
shared borders and configuration files. It will appear to
you as an entirely different web!
Creating a Subweb
1. Save any pages you are currently working on and close
them.
2. Click the File menu, point to New and click Web... from
the menu that appears.
3. Click (once) the type of web you want to create.
4. In the location of the new web: text box, enter the path
to the current web, followed by a \ (forward slash), and a
name of a folder. (Without any spaces or symbols)
5. Click the OK button.
6. Follow the Wizard (if there is one for the web you
selected).
7. FrontPage will now open a second window of FrontPage that
shows the files in your subweb.
8. Close it for now.
9. Back at the original FrontPage window, scroll down your
Folder List, and you will see the new folder. It is named
what you typed after the \ in Step 4.
10. When you want to edit the subweb, double-click the
subweb.
11. When you publish your site, publish the site from your
main web being sure to check the option "Include subwebs"
from the publishing window.
Important Note: Don't ever publish your site through your
subweb web. You will end up overwriting your current web
that is on the web server. Note: You can set unique
permissions for your subweb. Just open your main web through
your web server (by entering http://www.yourdomain.com) in
the Folder name: text box in the Open Web dialog box.
Double-click your subweb, click the Tools menu, point to
Security and click Permissions... from the menu that
appears.
