Creating
Mail Redirects |
The idea of a mail redirect is, as the name states, to
redirect mail that gets sent to one address to another main
address. For example, say you have a number of different
areas on your business site and want separate e-mail
addresses for each area but don’t have that many POP
mailboxes available. This is where mail redirects come in
handy. All you need is one POP mailbox that can set up on
your domain or it could even be your ISP e-mail address.
Then you set up all the e-mail addresses for each area of
your site and set them to redirect to your primary e-mail
address.
To do this, you need to log into your control panel and at
the main menu for your domain, click the “Mail” button to
get into the mail settings. Once in there, if you plan on
setting up a POP mailbox to redirect your mail to, then see
the tutorial for that in the forum. If you have already done
that, or are using your ISP e-mail address then follow on.
Under “Create new mail name”, there is a field called “Mail
name”. In here enter the name for your e-mail address. For
example, say it’s for the gardening area for your site and
you want the address to be “gardening@yoursite.com" then the
mail name would be “gardening”. Once you have done that,
click “Add”.
The next step is to configure this mail name to work as a
redirect. To do this, you need to scroll down the screen
until you see where it says “Redirect”. Make sure the box is
ticked. In the black field next to “Redirect”, you need to
enter in the address you want all the mail to redirect to (ie.
the mailbox you set up, or your ISP e-mail address).
When you have done this, simply scroll to the bottom of the
screen and click “Update”. You will be transferred back to
the mail menu and you will see your new redirect added to
the list. Now all mail sent to that redirect address would
be diverted to the address you specified. Now you can have
endless numbers of e-mail addresses and only require one
mailbox.
